NoMule 2008.09.01 is out

Category: General

…and it has one new feature. NoMule now has a commandline interface.

This means that you can run NoMule from your commandline. It also means that you can use it as a part of your own programs. If you do that - remember that NoMule is released under the GPL.

However the commandline version has a few limitations. You can only download one video at a time and you cannot search for content.

There are many other and small changes in this version (e.g. the Yuvutu Mediaprovider) , which have been made in the time between the last release and this release and have been brought to you as minor updates.

I hope you enjoy the new version :)

It’s been a while - but now it’s out

Category: General

The headline already says it. The release of the last version was in June and now it’s almost August. However I finally made it and released the new version of NoMule. There have been a lot of changes

  • Most obvious: YouTube works again
  • You don’t need to download every little update. NoMule does it for you
  • You can share music with your friends
  • The documentation is now included in every release (except the source release)

There has been some Beta-Testing and I have received a number of mails by users, asking me some questions. I want to thank everybody who helped to make NoMule better.

So you might want to go to http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=222991 and get your copy of NoMule. Have fun with it. :)

Sneak preview

Category: General

Hey there.

For quite a long time now there was no new NoMule Version. So what is going on behind the curtain? The answer is - A lot.

There will be a lot of improvements with the upcoming version of NoMule. So what are these features?

  • Automatic updates
You don’t have to go to the update page for every small update. Bugfixes and things of this kind will be automatically delivered to you. So when some mediaproviders change their services you will not have to download a new version, but will receive it automatically. As there is no long process of putting the files up into Sourceforges File Release system, and writing blogposts and so on. So Bugfixes will be delivered to you very quickly.
  • Sharing of NoMule files
The next version includes a feature called NDD. NDD means NoMule Download Description. These are very small files containing information on the location (Youtube- / MySpace- / Whateverlink), the author, the title, … of a song. So when you open a NDD-File using NoMule the result will be a fully tagged mp3-file, which you can put into your music library without doing anything more.
Using NoMule you can create and open these files. The files are very small and can be sent to your friends using your favourite Instant Messenger. You will not have to worry about low transfer rates, because NDD files are very small and the actual downloading is from youtube / whatever to your friends computer.
    You’ll experience it yourself ;)
  • A quality release
The next version will be a quality release. I’m planning to find beta-testers to test the program and do some more intensive testing myself. I will include documentation on how to use NoMule into every release. So you will not have to download the docs-release if you want to know something.
There will be a sourcecode documentation included in the source-releases. At the moment I’m not quite sure, what this documtation will contain. ^^

So - know you know, what the hell is taking so long and you can look out for the info box in your NoMule when the next version will be released.

MySpace - on my computer

Category: General

Hey there!

There is a new release of NoMule. For the first time ever this release is also announced using NoMule’s update notification system.

So - let’s see what has been improved. First off : There is a new feature.

From today on you can download videos and songs from MySpace. And there’s another cool thing. You can also search videos and songs in MySpace using NoMule.

So from now on you can do the same things with stuff from MySpace, that you can do with stuff from YouTube.

There is another thing which has improved. It’s support for Unix.

I’ve done some testing under Linux (Ubuntu 7.10) to see that there were many bugs. I’ve also received mails about this. So I tried to fix the main bugs.

So with NoMule 2008.06.06 you can also preview videos under Unix and in general there should be fewer errors.

However - if you experience problems with NoMule drop me a line. My mail adress is

kenny1987 at users dot sourceforge dot net

So have fun using the new version :)

And many thanks to Paul and Eric for giving me valuable feedback.

Update : It was late yesterday - So I forgot to mention : The documentation now has a unix section, which tells you which packages NoMule depends on and what tips and tricks there are, when using unix :)

There’s something new - and you know it!

Category: General

… because NoMule 2008.05.16 supports update notifications.

So whenever there is a new version of NoMule you will be told by the program. Or you wont. Because there is another new feature. You can now have settings in NoMule.

These include:

  • Settings on wether or not to look for updates
  • Settings for wether or not use a family filter and dont show porn sites

Recently there have been some problems with YouTube, Google Video and Dailymotion because the link conversion service keepvid changed their URL. This is no longer a problem with the new NoMule version - it’s fixed.

For German users: You might know Bastian Pastewka, Axel Stein and other comedians working at Brainpool. Brainpool has a video community called MySpass (quite stupid name imho). You can now also download videos from this page.

And now for those of you who download the source. NoMule now includes a testing program which checks if all included mediaproviders are still working. It does that automatically and tells you which mediaproviders are broken.

Anyway have fun with the new version of NoMule, which you can download from here as always.

What you lookin’ for?

Category: General

Ok - so you want to have this song on your iPod.

Well you could go to YouTube or another site search for the video there and paste the link to NoMule to then download it and convert it to Mp3.

Or - you could search for the song directly in NoMule. From today on it supports searching mediaproviders directly in NoMule. At the moment you can search for media in:

  • YouTube
  • YouPorn

So go and download NoMule 2008.05.11 and have fun :)

  • Google Video
  • DailyMotion
  • PornHub
  • PornoTube
  • RedTube
  • Tube8
  • XTube

So from now on you have access to more than 66 Mio videos! Have fun :)

Category: General

Hello everybody.

As announced today a documentation of NoMule has been released. You don’t have to read a lot as it comes a simple PDF-Presentation.

So from now on up-to-date documentation will be added to every new release. Documentation has the suffix -doc.

Anyway - if the docs won’t help you can drop me a line to kenny1987 at users dot sourceforge dot net

NoMule 2008.04.09 introduces autotagging

Category: General

Hello everybody.

Today NoMule gets a new feature: AutoTagging. Think about this:

You downloaded this mp3 from youtube and you want to put it onto your iPod. The problem is - it has absolutely no meta information and you have to add the band’s name, the songtitle, the lyrics, etc yourself.

Sucks - doesn’t it? That’s at least what I think and therefore developed AutoTag. Now when an mp3 is downloaded and you name it appropriatly (e.g. The_Smiths-Panic.mp3 for Panic by The Smiths) the mp3 will automatically tagged with

  • author’s name
  • song title
  • album title
  • album cover as JPG image
  • lyrics

so there’s very little work for you to do. Just put it onto your mobile media player :)

Btw: There’ll be a manual for NoMule very soon.
